I build and fund companies, usually a few years before their market shows up. Since 2018 that has been Fabrica, where land ownership works like software: the property sits in a legal trust, a token controls the trust, and moving the token moves the land. The technology is the easy half. The rest is property law, jurisdiction by jurisdiction.
Before this I spent about a decade on Milano Tonight, later tonight.eu, which I founded in 2000 and ran without investors. In 2005 la Repubblica's Milan supplement called it a sacred text for deciding what to do with your evening. It grew to sixteen cities across Europe, with user reviews years before Yelp arrived in Italy. Samsung shipped it preinstalled on their phones, our logo on the box.
Then innovation at Vodafone Italy. In November 2010 I put Dropbox and Twilio in front of the leadership, one as an acquisition to look at, the other as something to buy into or rebuild ourselves. Neither happened. Later I launched their Silicon Valley startup programme in Italy and closed its first deal, and spent three months in California scouting for Vodafone Ventures. I moved here properly a couple of years later. In between came phone.id, an identity layer for phone numbers. It went nowhere, which is the other half of being early. I have angel invested along the way.
I live in San Francisco with my family. Before kids there were small planes, motorbikes and scuba diving.
Long before any of that, I was a teenager in Italy writing software for the Commodore Amiga that sold on CD-ROM across Europe, and writing for the Amiga magazines. Some of it is still online, which is the best and the worst quality of the internet.
